Gyroporus cyanescens (Bull. ex Fr.) Quél. syn. Boletus cyanescens Fr. Kornblumenröhrling, Bolet bleuissant, Indigotier. Cap 6–12cm, pale ochre, buff or dingy white becoming more ochre with age bruising blue or rusty, coarsely velvety, margin often shaggy. Stem 50–100 x 20–85mm, becoming hollow, pale yellow at apex gradually becoming concolorous with cap below, often cracking to give ring-like zones. Flesh firm, white, instantly blue-green on cutting. Taste and smell not distinctive. Tubes white then pale yellow flushed sulphur or greenish yellow with age. Pores virtually free, similarly coloured, bruising blue. Spore print pale straw-colour. Spores ellipsoid, 9–11 x 4.5–6um. Habitat often with birch or spruce and on heaths. Season summer to late autumn. Rare. Edible – good. Distribution, America and Europe. |
